- Once the cakes are completely cool, take one layer and place it on a serving plate. Spread a generous layer of frosting on top before placing the second layer atop it. Finish by generously frosting the top and sides of the cake. For a decorative touch, you can sprinkle some finely ground pistachio nuts on the top.
